Big Hutch

Gregory Fernard Hutchinson grew up right here in Pomona, California better known as Big Hutch, or Cold 187um, "187um" and Mansa Musa. He is a rapper, Producer of two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Artists, Motion Picture Soundtrack producer, and the nephew of late R&B singer Willie Hutch.

Cold 187um is the founder of the highly successful genre G-funk made famous by The Chronic album, including artists Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Above The Law, and many others.

Cold 187um has made some of the toughest hits in West Coast history going back to when he was the founder of the group Above the Law. The group signed with the legendary Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records in 1989; producing the debut album, co-produced by Dr. Dre of Death Row Records. Above the Law contributed greatly to the continuing success of Ruthless after Dre's departure and the breakup of N.W.A. During his tenure at Ruthless, Cold 187um produced gold, platinum, and multi-platinum records for artists such as Easy E, MC Ren, and many others as well as classic soundtracks such as the Menace II Society, The Crow: City of Angels, Straight Outta Compton, as well as many other projects with multiple artists. Big Hutch collaborated with Iced tea, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, DOC, Xzibit, DJ Quik, E40, Too Short, Jayo Felony, and Goodie Mob. Cold187um was sought out by Suge Knight to become Vice President and Head Producer of Death Row Records to replace Daz Dillinger. During his tenure there, he would oversee production on the posthumous 2 Pac album, "Until The End of Time" and touch up unreleased Dogg Pound tracks for 2002, an unauthorized album by the duo released on Death Row.

Hutchinson collaborated with Big Shot Music Group again and remained true to the classic west coast G-Funk sound.

He was featured on Dr. Dre's album "Loose Cannons" also featuring Xzibit and Sly Pyper. The Hip Hop Foundation named cold 187um the number one legendary producer that you never hear about, to pioneer a generation of west coast hip hop sound, G-Funk.

He was also featured in Episode 4 of the Netflix Originals documentary, Hip-Hop Evolution titled "The Birth of Gangsta Rap." And later that year, 187um released The Black Godfather, a double album featuring numerous guest artists such as Kokane, AMG, Suga Free, Ras Kass, Yo-Yo, Daz Dillinger, Jayo Felony, Kurupt, Money B from Digital Underground, Too Short, E-40, Ice Cube, Xzibit, Big Gipp from Goodie Mob, Ceelo Green, Ice-T, and Snoop Dogg just to name a few. He continues to release classic albums under cold187/Mansa Musa.

The style of Cold 187um was cultivated by him and inspired from exposure to innovators that were surrounding him such as, but not limited to, the late Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, N.W.A., Above The Law, Tupac, Insane Clown Posse, LeVert, Kid Frost, Eve, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, Crooked I, Warren G, and Scarface.

G-Funk couldn’t have come to fruition without his unique production mastery. He was and still is, a G-Funk production mastermind.
