Kool G Rap

Kool G Rap is an iconic lyrical emcee from Queens, New York City. He began his career in the mid-1980s as one half of the group Kool G Rap & DJ Polo and as a member of the Juice Crew. He is often cited as one of the most influential and skilled MCs of all time, and a pioneer of mafioso rap/street/hardcore content and multisyllabic rhyming.

On his album The Giancana Story, he stated that the "G" in his name stands for "Giancana" (after the mobster Sam Giancana), but on other occasions he has stated that it stands for "Genius".Juice Crew producer, Mr. Magic, and DJ Marley Marl allowed Kool G Rap to go to their studio to record a demo, which resulted in the song "It's a Demo." Shortly after this, Kool G Rap appeared on the Juice Crew's classic posse cut "The Symphony" before they released their debut album, Road to the Riches in 1989. This album and their two later albums, Wanted: Dead or Alive (1990) and Live and Let Die (1992), are highly regarded and considered hip-hop classics.

He has also been cited as a major influence to some of hip-hop's most critically acclaimed figures such as The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Eminem and Jay-Z, as well as many underground rappers. G is known for his complex multi-syllabic rhymes, his storytelling ability, rapid fire delivery and cadence which always has him in the top lists of the all time greats. He is also often credited as the first emcee to infuse his music with mafia style lyrics and stories. Rolling Stone magazine said that before Kool G Rap, New York didn't really have the street rap that could hold its own in comparison to what artists in Los Angeles were churning out.  In the 90's Kool G Rap began his solo career with the legendary "4,5,6" album which is his most commercially successful album.

Later on in 1998 he released the critically acclaimed classic "Roots of Evil". In the years to follow he's released multiple solo albums and collaborative albums such as: The Giancana Story, Half A Klip, Return of the Don and his most recent in 2022 titled Last of a Dying Breed. G Rap has been consistently touring for the last 2 decades and is one of the most sought after emcees to be featured on other artists albums. Most recently, Kool G Rap teamed up with Canadian film company Reel Wolf to produce and release his long awaited documentary and life story which is slated for a 2025 release date.
